The final straw was when my mother in law passed and I asked the professor to allow me to take 2 weeks off and turn in the work when I returned and could even furnish a death certificate. My paper (“manuscript”) was approved by three committee members and the mentor, yet, the School labeled it non-performance. Needless to say, I was in my dissertation phase of the program and I have a very good GPA. 0:18-cv-01062-WMW-SER, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. I took about three years off and decided it was time to get back to finish my dissertation. When I was ready to return, the catalog had indeed changed and I had to not only take additional classes but also redo my comprehensive exam and redo all 3 residencies that I had completed and passed. I took some time off, but I am still within my matriculation timeline. In April 2018, a class-action lawsuit was filed against for-profit school Capella University for allegedly operating a bait-and-switch doctoral degree program. I’m financially bankrupt and all I can say is thanks, Capella! pleas help.
  • I was also dropped from the school. My student loan company which I have spoken to numerous times, states that all disbursements are completed through the college. When I questioned this as I was an A student in reading and comprehension at my previous College, they stated that, “no one sees the scored, I just see pass or fail”! I could have corrected the sentence and resubmitted the work. So Sad, for those of us that didn’t know any better at the time. I have to drop the program because I can no longer afford the tuition that raises every year. Two of the advisors went on vacation and left me hanging. Two former Capella University students allege in their class action lawsuit that Capella falsely advertises the time and money it takes for students to get their degrees. Meanwhile, I maintained a 3.0. drug injury lawsuits and product liability lawsuits. After submitting my documentation, Capla replied that I could not return.

I sought a Masters Degree to better myself and my community but instead the financial debt has caused incredible anxiety and stress and has taken a huge financial toll on my family. I was dropped from my sixth class because my tax documents were “missing pages” for the new semester’s student loans. Isn’t it a federal crime to charge financial aid more than what the student receives? I recently contacted Capella about obtaining a course for a practicum and internship to wrap up my requirements for my state licensure. Then they told me that I had reached my maximum limit in federal student loans! Carefully parsing Capella’s marketing statements, she found allegations against the school do not add up to “false representations” for eight of the nine plaintiffs named. Next thing I know, I had questions about how does the financial aid work and was told that if I accepted the financial aid that everything would be covered with the aid that I was receiving. Then, I was told i had to answer further questions about my tax documents.
